Day 27, R.I.P. Triops

So Sunday morning before I was heading out to Portland to buy my commuter bike and inflatable kayak, I checked on the Triops and it was swimming happily... and when I get home it was upside down, not moving and looks like it's carapace shell was loose. my guess is that it died while trying to molt it's shell. This is a known thing about the triops as a cause for mortality.

Hopefully the next time around I'll get more than 1 hatchling and more success than 1 month. May the Triops rest in peace....

This was the morning picture I think

Scooped out the Triops so that it won't rot in the water

I will continue this post once the lil rascals hatch...

Day 20 & 22 Bigger, Better and Molted skin

Cleaned out the water just this weekend and checked on the Triops. Another molted shell, looking ghostly and it's eating up the carrots really fast for just 1 lil bugger.

Looks pretty happy with the new water and its environment so can't complain. It's doing all the usual Triopsy things like swimming upside down, skimming the surface upside down, doing all kinds of fancy swimming maneuvers which is pretty cool!

Day 20:

This is day 22:

Below is the molted skin which looks like an empty glove and exact replica of the Triops:

Triops... big... good

The Triops in the middle and the molted skin next to it.

Day 18, clean water, need to collect more rain water

Uploading photos. It's big, almost an inch aka 2 cm ++. I'm not counting the butt portion antennae, I think that's kinda unfair else I'd say it's about 1.25 inches / 2.5 cm++ already.

Ok no I have not lost steam.. just been busy and tired because I've been training up to cycle my target 12 miles which I achieved yesterday woo hoo!

Ok so here's the kick ass video of the Triops being feisty and attacking the carrot:
