Day 11 & 12

Was busy so nothing new to publish except that it continues to grow. Maybe when I get the chance I may put on a streaming web cam so we can all watch Triops antics live.

Some of my favorite pictures from Day 11 & 12:

Day 10 sea Monkey, nah Triops are going bananas for bananas

Ok so the Triops continues to grow... (screams Godzilla!) It's about 1.8 cm maybe? Can't really measure it but it is growing. Sucked up a molted shell yesterday and see pictures and video below... it's growing big and strong.

So I did my 8.2 mile bicycle ride, and was blending bananas, blueberries with peach yogurt and orange juice and suddenly I thought... hey Triops likes organic food stuff... so why not scrape some of the inner side of banana peel and drop it in... variety is the spice of life since the prior carrots I didn't see it nibble much on it.

Holy Moly! It ate it like some kind of new dish in the organic buffet line.

Day 9 now the fun begins

Ok so I saw it swim upside down, skimming the surface upside down, even saw it eating upside down on the bottom of the Betta tank (I mentioned yesterday that I moved it to some prime aquatic prime estate and being the only Triops... it's luxurious, no crowding, no fighting for food... wow what a Triops kind of life.

Ok small eww factor.. I saw it eating the carrot on it's back and was pooping at the same time... ah well but it's growing very nicely so, can't complain. It really really likes carrot...! I'm not kidding you!

Anyway there is only 1 small carrot bit left so I'll wait tonight and see if it eats it or not else I'll scoop it out and put in a fresh par boiled / softened fresh one... sounds like another carrot buffet for it. I'm wondering if I should go get an aquatic plant to help make a lil more oxygen...

Pictures and video turned out amazing today since the size of the Triops is much larger, so my digital camera focusing on macro is much better.

Looks like I don't have any favorite shot... was wanting to take another picture but it's upside down again eating.. bummer.. would have liked a top view nice clear shot. There's always tomorrow's report and probably it'll once again grow bigger.

Till then folks!

Day 8 Triops continues to grow

More visible now since it's a lot larger. You can't see it in the picture, but the sides do have a cool "peace" sign appendages showing.

Just a heads up if you go to the album itself I have tagged the Triops so at least you can see roughly where it is in the small whole foods dish.

I have moved it to the betta tank just tonight... hope it's enjoying the vast space and fresh waters... talk about aquatic real estate...

Day 7 (Sorry was busy & tired yesterday)

So wow... again almost 1.5 cm long. Now the pictures and video you can actually see something visible... perhaps due to better photography or more like the Triops is now bigger. Carrot is disappearing fast.

I'll wait to replace it once it's gone for good so as not to foul the water and I'll need to syphon / clean it a little... and will put it into the proper large Betta fish tank.

There are 7 pictures and 1 video. Here's the clearest picture of the Triops (GEDC5683.jpg):

Day 5 Triops is almost at 1 cm length!

The carrot bit continues to get ravaged... it's like a carrot buffet for that 1 Triops. You can now see holes and the carrot is slowly disappearing.

Ok now I'm hungry for Sushi buffet.. maybe I'll do that friday. NO! Not Triops on sushi or anything... just that I like Sushi and was thinking of buffet since the Triops is having that abundant carrot as it's buffet of food.

Life's good and it continues to thrive. I tried to tag the pictures where the Triops is in the picture.

There are 6 pictures in the album, my favorite is:

Day 4 Triops is HUGE! (like 5 - 6 mm huge........)

From a mere tiny dot egg... my baby Triops is now about 5 - 6 mm in size. Can I still call it a baby? Wow they do grow fast. Well nature is a harsh environment (especially since they survive in non permanent ponds) so survival of the fittest. I'm really surprised that out of 8 or 9 eggs only 1 hatched and definitely this is a keeper & survivalist.

Looks pretty orange probably due to feasting on the carrot. The carrot looks smaller / thinner and definitely signs of nibbling.

They are hermaphrodite so hopefully my one Triops will have self fertilized eggs and be able to give me a good source for future generations.

Day 3 I think...

So I scooped up the rest of the eggs and have them dry off because by this time if they do hatch they'll probably be yummy food for this 1 day++ old triops. Hopefully the next round I'll get maybe say 5 or more from the egg hatchlings.

I put in the carrot already day before yesterday, so the advise was to let it sit in there. I came home today and saw it nibbling on the carrot I think. Seems to be pretty active and happy. It grew quite a bit from maybe say 0.5 mm or 1/32 of an inch to about 1 - 1.5 mm.

A little small to see but hopefully the next few days it'll be larger and easy to see / spot.

Triops Day 1 and Day 2

Ok so far it's been day 1-ish 2-ish... because I had to warm up the water and soak the water prep bag overnight (8 hrs minimum) and so I think it was the morning at 9 am PST I popped about 8 triops eggs into a smaller hatchery and we'll see. They are really small... approximately 0.5mm / 1/32 of an inch or smaller. I didn't want to put 1/2 the container which would have been like 10 or so eggs. Small colony good, but of course that lessens the chances of success possibly depending on the statistics of failure per egg.

Anyway, based on my readings online from other Triops gurus also they mentioned that new hatchlings would be better in a smaller tank so that it's easy for them to find food and once prob say day 3 then only relocate them to the bigger / regular tank. So lets see.
